Summary: The primary responsibility of the Laboratory Assistant Level I is to assist the laboratory technicians in day to day operations of the laboratory. Responsibilities: * Assist in laboratory test send out processes * Basic utilization of the laboratory information system (LIS) * Accessions all specimens into the LIS, appropriately labels samples and modifies test requests as needed * Comprehensive understanding of value-add tests and intra-laboratory communications surrounding external client sampling handling (e.g., TOVER, To Follow codes, etc.) * General preparation of specimens for analysis, including: centrifugation, serum/plasma separation, PCV reading, refractometry, blood smear and cytology preparation (including staining of slides), saline dilution preparations, cross-match preparation (not to include interpretation), urinalysis preparation (including urine dipstick interpretation), and fecal testing preparation * Knowledge and understanding of special preparation of specimens for external/specialty lab testing, including proper completion of external laboratory submission forms, packaging, and shipping * Completion of specified bench top/serology tests (e.g., heartworm antigen) and recording of results * Attach and release of external laboratory results in the LIS * Unpacks and re-stocks supplies * Maintains general cleanliness of the lab * Fills laboratory supply orders for external clients * Answers phone calls and questions, directs questions to appropriate person(s) when necessary and arranges courier/shipping of samples and supplies as necessary. * Participates in and contributes to collaborative, team-focused education and training programs in the laboratory for various personnel, including assistants, fellow technicians, and other support members * Appropriately fills out and adheres to laboratory log books (e.g., shipping, temperature logs, etc.) * Follows ZRL SOPs as written and instructed * Adheres to safety rules and regulations * Other duties as assigned Education, License and Job Requirements: * Minimum education of high school diploma or GED; some college education preferred * Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) * Experience of 1-2 years in a laboratory setting preferred * Ability to stand on a continuous basis up to 10 hours a day * Ability to lift up to 30 lbs Skills and Experience: * 1+ years' experience in professional working environment * Consistently demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work independently with little supervision * Demonstrates time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize daily work * Demonstrates excellent follow through and attention to detail * Demonstrates ability to be flexible and adjust to a changing environment Full time Regular Colleague Any unsolicited resumes sent to Zoetis from a third party, such as an Agency recruiter, including unsolicited resumes sent to a Zoetis mailing address, fax machine or email address, directly to Zoetis employees, or to Zoetis resume database will be considered Zoetis property.
