Team Overview
Alternatives Operations supports BlackRock Alternative Investments ("BAI"). BAI takes a dynamic approach to alternative investments, creating investment vehicles that increasingly capitalize on evolving opportunities in fast-changing markets. We offer clients strategies designed to provide returns with low correlations to the broad equity and bond markets, including private equity, real estate equity and debt, hedge funds of funds, single strategy hedge funds, long-only absolute return strategies, commodities and structured products.
The purpose of the GAAPS Alternatives Fund Controllers (AFC) team is to act as the interface between the funds' investment professionals, investors, and external contacts, such as accounting outsource providers, auditors, tax professionals, and third party distributors, etc. for BlackRock’s alternative funds platform. The AFC India Team will focus on contributing by resolving issues and providing product oversight and coordination of Administrators for many of our funds, which can invest in private investments.
Role Responsibility
Oversee external administration, accounting and financial reporting for assigned group of funds;
Review NAV accounting packages prepared by the external administrators for accuracy and completeness as part of the periodic NAV close process for the funds;
Ensure periodic fund NAV, investor reporting, regulatory reporting, and financial reporting deliverable deadlines are met;
Consistently perform risk assessments and proactively drive improvements in internal control environment, technology enhancements and procedures both internally and at 3rd party service provider;
Review investor allocations, as well as management fee and distribution/waterfall calculations for funds;
Provide oversight of year-end audits performed by independent accountants in conjunction with external administrator involvement;
Assist with review and approval of fund operating expenses;
Assist with data aggregation and calculations for regulatory filings;
Work with external administrator, internal team members and other BlackRock groups to resolve fund accounting and other operational issues, as identified;
Perform periodic internal reporting to other BlackRock groups (e.g. fund metrics, AUM, fee revenue, investor data);
Respond to ad hoc requests from outside investors and other BlackRock groups.
Communicate performance results to investors and resolve investors’ questions.
Participate in investor due diligence meetings, as required for product set, and explain the controls in place to ensure accurate reporting to clients is achieved
Experience:
A degree in Finance or Accounting is a requirement. CA or CPA is preferred.
5-7 years’ experience (desired but not required) working within a financial services or banking platform, with financial securities, private placements, and limited offerings a plus.
Understanding of financial concepts, ability to speak thoughtfully and confidently while using applied financial reasoning.
Highly attentive, ability to focus, excellent follow-through, flexibility and stellar grammar and English skills.
Self-motivated, dedicated, able to change directions quickly, and capable of working well with strong personalities.
Strong background in Word and Excel.
Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
Capacity to multi-task, balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and changing environment
Facility to grasp complex concepts and details quickly
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
Analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Working knowledge of administrative fundamentals
Experience with coding in Unqork and/or eFront operations is a plus
