Intermountain Health Actuarial Intern in Murray, Utah
Job Description:
This Actuarial Student Intern will help support actuarial reporting, audit models, and learn actuarial techniques to analyze health insurance membership and claims experience.
Scope
This position allows an actuarial student to gain work experience in an actuarial role. The work experience and projects will relate to the student’s actuarial studies, both in their university classes and the Society of Actuaries exams. The actuarial student will gain critical technical skills to be successful as an actuary by using Microsoft Excel, Oracle SQL, and R/Python to complete assigned projects and tasks. Due to the highly technical nature of actuarial positions, the internship is viewed as an extended interview to evaluate talent for potential future full-time entry level positions. Intern will also get exposure to the other actuarial departments and products to determine if health actuarial work is a fit for them. This position is temporary by nature, lasting up to 12 months. Temporary positions are not eligible for Intermountain's benefits programs, PTO accrual or paid holidays.
This role can be primarily remote, with occasional training in person at the Murray, Utah location.
Job Essentials
Participates and is involved in a variety of projects that support actuarial analysis. Works with members of the team to learn how to apply Microsoft Excel, SQL, and R/Python to actuarial modeling and other ad-hoc analyses.
Attends team / department meetings and actively participate / take on opportunities to share knowledge and skills that are pertinent to the meeting.
Gains knowledge of the department's / facilities functions. May job shadow various roles within the department in order to understand their role in the organization.
Works with other members of the department / facility to accomplish assigned tasks.
Project Assistance: May be assigned one or more specific projects during the internship. Demonstrates an understanding of the process and accountability for the results / outcomes. Works independently or as a member of a team to accomplish the tasks necessary to successfully complete the project. Involves others when needed in a timely manner and work to meet project timelines.
Miscellaneous: Provides staff operational / clerical support to the department / facility as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Student in business fields (Finance, Communications, Marketing, HR, legal, etc.), who is in the first two years of an undergraduate program at an accredited institution. Education is verified.
Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.

Physical Requirements:
Speaking, hearing / listening, seeing, manual dexterity.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
