Intermountain Health EKG Technician in Murray, Utah

Job Description:

To respond to and to perform non-invasive cardiac EKG diagnostic tests on hospital inpatients and outpatients. To provide quality handling of test data, and to assist physicians in accurate testing. The incumbent will work with allied medical professionals and networked Intermountain Healthcare facilities. Technicians will work with physicians to provide quality EKGs.

Job Essentials

  • Performs exams per department protocol and demonstrates EKG competency.

  • Completes studies within accepted time limitations without compromising patient care or the quality of the examination.

  • Operates and exhibits a working knowledge of the equipment by demonstrating the ability to proficiently use it and select the proper settings.

  • Performs routine maintenance including cleaning of equipment and reports any variance from normal that impacts the function of the equipment.

  • Responds immediately to calls as appropriate by facility.

  • Accurately and timely completes orders and patient billing.

  • Notifies physician if critical values are identified during the test, as per Critical Value Policy.

  • Ensures proper patient identification by using two patient identifiers. Review the patient chart or order to verify the procedure ordered is correct prior to testing.

  • Incumbent is responsible to be able to administer every test within the EKG Lab (to include Holter, ambulatory telemetry/event monitors, and blood pressure monitor hook-up, stress testing, and EKGs).

  • Must provide technical assistance and monitoring of all exercise treadmill studies as appropriate by facility.

  • Maintains any records and logs required by the department, the Joint Commission, and other accrediting entities.

  • Provides patient education as needed and assures patient comfort.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain current BLS certification for healthcare providers.

  • Must take and pass the Intermountain Healthcare EKG course and pass off associated skills within four months of hire (or take the first class offered after hire date)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior patient care or customer service experience.

  • Prior EKG technical or interpretation experience.
