Position functions as a Transportation Supervisor. Employee supervises activities of County Maintenance shoulder/ditching crew or pavement maintenance crew. Counsels and disciplines employees; manages expenditures; maintain work records, time sheets, job reports and inventory records. Plan and adjust work operations. Train employees, conduct performance reviews, interview and recommend hiring new staff. Ensure equipment is maintained. Investigate public complaints/inquiries. Work assignments include grading, patching/ pavement maintenance, emergency response to cleanup of spills/debris, clearing snow and ice. Position located in the Nash County Maintenance Unit. Direct, assist and train subordinate employees. Maintain accurate records of work accomplished. Possess basic math skills. Ability to communicate, establish and maintain working relationships with co- workers, management and general public. Ability to work in extreme temperatures and uneven terrain conditions for extended periods of time. Ability to work in emergency situations and inclement weather. Operate state vehicle. Safety toed shoes required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience in road maintenance and repair, as well as maintenance equipment operation
Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
Experience in NCDOT snow and ice operations
Experience in Basic Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices
Experience in planning work and supervising a work crew
Additional Expectations:
Ability to supervise work crews. Employee will be expected to promote a safe work environment. Ability to maintain working knowledge of all maintenance operating procedures. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Employee will be expected to maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. Ability to perform quantity calculations. Employee will be expected to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Safety toe shoes required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
