Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Radiologist, CT & MRI Manager, and supervision of the Lead CT Technologist, participates in the daily operation of the CT Department with a focus on Radiation Safety, CT education, CT scan competencies and training to prepare for the CT Registry exam. Ultimately, the Trainee will be able to perform CT procedures in accordance with department protocols at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. The CT Technologist Trainee will, over time, be able to perform a variety of technical procedures including but not limited to interventional cases, CT Angiography, and advanced 3D reconstruction. These procedures require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply theoretical CT Scan knowledge into practice for providing the best possible imaging for the diagnosis. Additionally, the CT Technologist Trainee will receive training for the administration of IV, oral, and rectal contrast. The CT Technologist Trainee must be willing and able to contribute to the coverage of the CT department beyond normally scheduled hours. Responsible to maintain equipment and supplies, must maintain a clean and organized work area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
Utilizes the ASRT education module CT Basics to satisfy the ARRT 16-credit Structured Education Requirement for CT Registry eligibility.
Completes all Educational Credits necessary for CT Registry.
Completes all Scan Competencies necessary for CT Registry.
Acquires scans according to radiologist and department protocol.
Informs patients of exam and provides instruction to assure patient cooperation.
Assists radiologist during Interventional Procedures.
Coordinates daily workload by scheduling inpatients and prioritizing emergency department patients with consideration of the outpatient schedule.
Reviews IV Contrast Questionnaire with patients receiving IV Contrast.
Completes documentation in Epic EMR.
Reviews exams in PACS for completeness prior to submitting to the radiologist.
Responsible for the safety of all patients.
Flexible to assist with the 24/7 coverage of the department.
Arrives on time for all assigned shifts. Including on-call, holidays, and weekends.
Arrives ready to work and works until end of shift.
Completes mandatory learning, competencies and CEU’s as required.
Follows dress code policy.
Maintains HIPAA compliance.
Cleaning, stocking of supplies, and laundry to maintain a professional workspace.
Other duties as consistent with this role.
Job Requirements: (education and experience/preferred and required)
Job Knowledge and Skills
Participates as an active learner.
Effective reading, writing, and communication skills.
Effective time-management to accomplish educational and patient care milestones.
Knowledge of PACS software, McKesson Change Healthcare preferred.
Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record, Epic preferred.
Learns patient preparation, positioning, and scan acquisition according to protocol.
Learns anatomy, pathology, and contrast enhancement on cross-sectional imaging.
Learns to obtain symptom and relevant patient history to ensure medical necessity.
Learns to routinely attempt to reduce radiation to patients and staff.
Learns to understands daily QA and warm-up procedure of CT equipment.
Learns to troubleshoot problems with CT equipment and contact service as needed.
Education and Experience
Current ARRT certification required
NH Imaging License required
BLS Certification required
CT Scan experience preferred
Degree or certificate from an accredited radiologic technology program preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
