Vanderbilt University Member Services Representative, Credit Union in Nashville, Tennessee

The Member Services Representative (MSR) serves as a liaison between the member and the credit union. They provide account information by phone or in person, as well as information on the full range of credit union products and services. MSRs open accounts for members, resolve issues, and professionally handle the members’ daily needs, while also providing a variety of transactional services to members.

Vanderbilt University Credit Union (VUCU) is a not-for-profit cooperative organization established in 1959 to promote saving, provide financial services and serve as a source of credit at a reasonable rate of interest. VUCU is member-owned, member-operated and democratically governed. Membership is open to all full-time and regular part-time Vanderbilt University employees; family members and all employees of Vanderbilt affiliated organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcome members and prospects to the credit union in a professional manner. Provide prompt, efficient, and accurate service in the processing of transactions.

  • Provide in‐person telephone or email general and specific service‐related information concerning credit union services or policies.

  • Respond to members’ requests, problems, and complaints, and/or direct them to the appropriate person for specific information and assistance.

  • Open new accounts and service existing accounts. Set up new account files, and provide members with all necessary information for membership.

  • Cross-sell credit union products and services to meet the member’s needs.

  • Handle requests from members for transfers of shares to loan payments, share withdrawals, check requests, CD transactions, line of credit advances, and any other requests received from members.

  • Promote credit union products and services to prospects based on their needs.

  • Mail receipts and checks to members as indicated by policy and procedure.

  • Assist members in balancing their accounts, proper completion of payroll deduction and direct deposit cards. Research accounts for deposit, withdrawal, and loan‐payment discrepancies.

  • Provide financial education to members

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School degree required.

  • 3+ years’ experience in the financial services industry.

  • History of familiarity with financial terms and practices.

  • Ability to gather member data from a variety of sources.

  • Must possess excellent bookkeeping skills and the ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with co-workers.
