OPERATIONS PROJECT ENGINEER

Job Description:

The Operations Project Engineer is responsible for overall plant engineering projects of the facility to ensure the reliability and health of the manufacturing operation. The Operations Project Engineer initiates, develops and helps implement projects to lower costs, improve quality, evaluate new technologies, evaluate new raw materials, and/or generate new business. This includes studying existing and new processes to help identify and implement improvement opportunities. The engineer also initiates projects that make plant facilities safer; reduce costs in such areas as energy, maintenance, and raw material usage; maintain the infrastructure of company facilities; and increase capacity.

What are we looking for?

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • Minimum of 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required including managing projects.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Engineering experience in a food manufacturing environment industry experienced required

  • Knowledge of instrument design and assembly, preferable hands-on experience with maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, investigating incidents, identifying the root cause, and documenting findings.

  • Must possess knowledge of process improvement techniques, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma/Greenbelt.

  • Excellent written communication skills with a strong ability to collaborate and work well with cross-functional teams

  • Strong track record of successful process/project work and problem-solving skills

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • This is a “hands on” job where the successful candidate is greatly involved to ensure each project is a success.

  • Preparing designs, project controls and specifications, schedules, cost estimates, production, transportation, installation, testing and/or commissioning of new infrastructure, facilities, equipment, etc.

  • Monitoring progress and performance against the project plan; taking action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays

  • Identifying, developing, and gathering the resources necessary to complete the project

  • May include preparing engineering standards, designs and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors

  • Manages Plant Capex projects from ideation to execution.

  • Provides technical support to the manufacturing plants, including conceptualization of capital projects, troubleshooting, training, management and/or providing support of process changes and implementation of the specified solutions. In this role, the Project Engineer will validate projects as needed, and either lead or take an active part in post-start-up reviews and assessments.

  • Provide technical input to the business, manufacturing, and R&D organizations in support of process improvement efforts, R&D programs, capital plans, and business plans.
