Position Description
This Safety Ambassador position with the Metro Nashville Public Schools helps ensure safety and security of students and school property at Elementary Schools within the district. Observes student activities for safety, patrols hallways and grounds during the school day, assists with arrival and dismissal of students, reports security concerns to appropriate district or Metro staff. Supports principal and staff with ensuring buildings are secured. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.

Typical Duties
Observes activities of students and visitors to ensure the safety of the school, including arrival, dismissal to buses and parents/guardians, lunch periods and assigned extracurricular activities. Reports concerns, acts in accordance with training in emergency situations. May be required to patrol hallways, grounds, parking lots or stand post.
Responds to fights, injury, classroom disruption, etc. to address immediate safety and security concerns; may be called upon to students to reduce conflicts or respond to serious behavioral problems and protect the safety of the student or another person.
Assists in conducting and evaluating fire drills. Assists with evaluation of emergency drills and exercises.
Completes daily reports such as incident documentation, activity logs, hazard/maintenance reports.
Communicates daily with school administrators to receive instruction and relay information.
Participates in regular and specially assigned training. Wears assigned uniform/standard attire daily.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, G.E.D or Vocational Training and six months of related experience.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
