Position Description
The Security Guard patrols and monitors assigned areas to protect library patrons, employees, buildings, and property. Property guards will not carry weapons or firearms. Also performs related duties as required.
Must be capable of walking/patrolling a building six to eight hours a day. Night and weekend work required

Typical Duties
Patrols library property on foot or with a vehicle.
Maintains order and calls for police assistance when needed.
Enforces Library Rules of Conduct.
Monitors and operates various security devices/systems.
Prepares written and oral reports as needed.
Gives direction and provides other information to employees and the public.
Rotates being on call for after-hours alarm calls.
Acts as key responder for emergency after hour calls.
May file arrest warrants on behalf of the library and appear in court as a witness.
May lead and coordinate the work of contract security officers.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must obtain State Certification for Unarmed Guards within the first 6 months of employment.
REQUIRED LICENSES:
Valid Driver's License
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience controlling the admittance of persons or vehicles on private or public property
Experience operating safety/security equipment, automobile, computer and general office equipment
Experience monitoring and patrolling a secure area
Knowledge of safety/conduct rules and regulations
Bilingual language skills

Metro offers a generous core benefit package to eligible employees who are regularly and consistently working 20 or more hours per week. Insurance and benefit coverage is effective the first of the month after the employee has worked 30 days. Employees can change their benefits within 60 days of an eligible change in status or during Annual Enrollment. Metro also offers optional benefits from which the employee may choose.
