Job Summary and Qualifications
The Care Transformation & Innovation (CT&I) team is responsible for the development and implementation of HCA’s electronic health record (EHR). The Electronic Health Record (EHR) Optimization team oversees and governs system modifications and systems-based people and process related aspects of the EHR across multiple software versions and various vendor platforms in HCA facilities. The Senior Information Governance Analyst, a member of the EHR Optimization team, will be responsible for the development and maintenance of information governance related processes, administering the Clinical Information Integrity program and supporting the overall systems governance strategy.
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Informatics Governance and Advisory, this individual will:
Demonstrate a drive for quality and a familiarity with industry regulatory compliance for electronic health record entry integrity
Act as enterprise liaison and subject matter expert for Clinical Informatics Governance and Information Integrity programs
Serve as a steward of data quality and excellence to maintain appropriate, accurate, and transparent Hospital Information System (HIS) medical record entries in accordance with company/facility policies and widely accepted industry practices
Exhibit extensive and seasoned health information management, medical recordkeeping, and compliance knowledge to develop, implement, and maintain company information governance initiatives
Lead audits to identify gaps and anomalies in EHR systems from company standards, accrediting compliance guidance, and industry best practices
Assist in developing contingency plans for technology gaps, systems modification management, and remedial efforts for inadvertent or erroneous recordkeeping practices
Develop and maintain effective strategic relationships with support departments (e.g., CSG, REGS, Information Protection, Internal Audit, Quality Standards, IT&S, Education, and Project Management)
Responsible for EHR operating processes and system designs according to compliance, regulatory, and company defined information usage guidelines/models/procedures
Prepare for and/or conduct Clinical Informatics Governance Program committee/subcommittee sessions to introduce topics, perform follow-ups, and enact/execute outcomes
Engage and educate stakeholders on the proper methods for making medical record entries, sustaining complete and accurate entries, and processes for making entry corrections
Promote and educate company EHR stakeholders on proper information governance; provide ongoing status reporting and executive level briefings for program activities
Collaborate with and/or participate in EHR system design teams to review, build, implement and maintain systems in accordance with proper recordkeeping and information governance principles
Major Responsibilities:
These activities will include but not be limited to:
Analysis
Work collaboratively with stakeholders to identify project objectives, scope, dependencies and risks for projects.
Collaborate with peers to develop a customized compliance analysis approach, defining the analysis tasks, resources, and estimated effort to complete a project.
Communicate the approach and work with program and system design team members to modify and ultimately gain approval for the analysis activities.
Research industry standards, company policies/procedures, and accrediting agency regulations to formulate a best approach for identified issues and standard variances.
Manage solution requirement communication, ensuring that stakeholders have a shared understanding of the requirements.
Work as liaison among stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes to business processes, data, policies and information systems.
Quickly understand business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements, analyze and present solution options.
Leverage and continually mature interview and facilitation techniques to lead performance modeling and strategizing efforts.
Operations
Manage clinical informatics governance projects to ensure that EHR operating standards are in place, compliant, and respond to questions from the field
Monitor compliance to identify opportunities to improve processes and standards
Work within entire organization to proactively communicate items related to documentation integrity, information governance, and medical record operations
Obtain field feedback on compliance activities to continuously improve department’s outputs
Use and understand company EHR systems and workflow functions
Assist team to organize projects using generally accepted project management standards
Support information governance activities of the CI EHR through participation in team meetings and documentation of work flows
Other
Work on other activities, as necessary, to support clinical informatics initiatives.
Participate in Systems Governance and Operations team meetings and projects
Represent the Systems Governance team in multi-disciplinary meetings
Attend key operational meetings and document attendees, discussion topics, and outcomes
Experience :
Bachelor’s Degree Required
7-10 years of relevant work experience
5 or more years working with Hospital Health Information management processes
Proven compliance knowledge with Joint Commission, HIPAA, and CMS
1 or more years working in an HIM management role
Familiarity with EHR systems, design, and impacted clinical workflows
