United States Fleet Forces Command RIGGER in Naval Business Center, Pennsylvania

Summary You will serve as a RIGGER in the Production Rigging Branch (Code 1450.2), Lifting and Handling Division (Code 1450), Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC), located in Philadelphia, PA, a detachment of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will plan, layout, install and inspect gear used to perform standard and complex weight handling operations. You will use rigging gear such as chain falls, J-Bars, tackle blocks, spreader beams and positioning fixtures individually or in combination to rig, move or position objects in open and confined spaces where a crane may or may not be used. You will use weight-handling gear to support, secure or operate equipment, machinery and other items having critical fit, tension and operational requirements. You will perform and direct placement, removal, or re-positioning of machinery, propellers in excess of 23 feet in diameter, inspection fixtures of various shapes and sizes, complex machining fixtures and other heavy loads. You will calculate the weight and center of gravity of loads to lifted and moved. You will brace, cushions and otherwise prepare load, and attach appropriate lifting gear including eyebolts and all other attaching hardware. You will direct operators of crane or other weight handling equipment by standard signals. You will maneuver, tilt, rotate 180 degrees and control loads in excess of 350,000 pounds using multiple hooks as necessary by means of attached lines, chains and specialized rigging gear and/or directs others in these complex maneuvers.
