Office of Naval Research DEFENSE TRAVEL TECHNICIAN in Naval Research Laboratory, District Of Columbia

Summary You will serve as a Defense Travel Technician in the Financial Management Department of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY. Responsibilities You will process all types of travel claims with all levels of difficulty including, but not limited to, foreign and domestic travel, long term training travel, invitational travel and constructive costs. You will research and recommend solutions to complex travel and transportation problems. You will utilize basic accounting concepts and apply them to travel transactions. You will be assigned official Passport Agent duties. This will require official training by the Department of State and the incumbent would become a sworn Passport Agent. NRL Passport Agents are required to be onsite at NRL one day per week. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications NC-02: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band (NC-01) or grade level (GS-1/4) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Using financial and travel systems (such as the Defense Travel System, the Integrated Automated Travel System, and the Commercial Reservation System ) to process a variety of travel claims; 2) Performing accounting functions and transactions related to travel and transportation (e.g. reviewing and approving travel vouchers/claims for payment, audit travel vouchers/claims, correcting erroneous travel charges); 3) Interpreting and applying travel regulations (such as the Joint Travel Regulations, Joint Federal Travel Regulations) to ensure compliance; and 4) Researching and recommending solutions to complex travel and transportation problems. NC-03: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band (NC-02) or grade level (GS-5/7) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following: 1) Using financial and travel systems (such as the Defense Travel System, the Integrated Automated Travel System, and the Commercial Reservation System ) to process a variety of travel claims; 2) Assisting personnel in preparing/amending all types of travel orders and providing guidance to travelers/travel clerks and approving/reviewing officials in accordance with current regulations; 3) Entering travel obligations in the Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) System, correcting erroneous travel charges made to division job order numbers, monitoring and correcting un-posted travel payments, preparing and reconciling reports to the General Ledger; 4) Reviewing and approving travel vouchers/claims and determining if claims are legal, proper and correct, and ensuring justification for exceptions to normal rules are adequate and documented; and 5) Auditing travel vouchers/claims for compliance with applicable travel-payment rules and regulations; and verifies that appropriate supporting documents are provided.
