Position Summary/Description:

The School seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor who will specialize in decedents’ estate administration and estate proceedings, trust and trust proceedings, and special proceedings. The selected candidate will serve as one of the School’s primary contacts and instructors for elected and assistant clerks, who are the ex officio judge of probate in North Carolina. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with other faculty members and staff in the School’s North Carolina Judicial College and coordinate regularly with the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts ( AOC ) and the Conference of Superior Court Clerks ( CCSC ). The candidate will advise, write, and teach elected and assistant clerks who act as the judicial official presiding in estate, trust, and special proceedings.

Teaching. The selected candidate will have responsibilities for teaching and curriculum planning in programs administered for the clerks, including courses administered by the School’s North Carolina Judicial College and conferences sponsored by the AOC and the CCSC .

Advising. The selected candidate will advise clerks of superior court regarding estate, trust, and special proceedings where the clerk is the presiding judicial official.

Scholarship. The selected candidate will produce scholarship for clerks, which will include chapters in the Clerks of Superior Court Manual Series, articles, and legal references. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the School’s On the Civil Side Blog, a practical and scholarly resource for judicial officials and practitioners.
