The Nevada County District Attorney's Office is hiring aCriminal Attorney I

Are you a new attorney looking to start your career in the criminal justice field? TheNevada County District Attorney’s Office (https://www.nevadacountyca.gov/391/District-Attorney) is seeking Criminal Attorneys to prosecute misdemeanor and felony cases received from State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies in Nevada County. This position will be primarily focused on a misdemeanor caseload that may include DUI, domestic violence, local ordinances, and other crimes.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable and proficient in the use of technology for the management of case information, report documentation, evidence, and information exchange. In addition, candidates must understand the various state, federal, and local laws as well as standard court procedures.

Sound communication, report writing, collaboration, and presentation skills are strongly desired. Applicants must have the ability to interact with individuals from diverse social, economic, cultural, behavioral, and environmental settings.

Examples of Duties

  • Prepares and participates in pleadings, arraignments, pre-trial agreements, motions, trials, responsive declarations, detention or asset seizure hearings, negotiations with opposing counsel and the courts.

  • Litigates criminal cases in court from start to finish including but not limited to conducting preliminary hearings, jury trails, and various evidentiary hearings.

  • Reviews law, regulations, and judicial decisions

  • Performs legal research.

Education and Experience Required

Level I: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited law school.

Level II: Equivalent to eighteen months of experience practicing criminal law. (In addition to the above)

Level III:Equivalent to eighteen months of experience practicing criminal law. (In addition to the above)

State Bar:Candidate must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of California.

Nevada County employees can opt to receive dental and vision insurance without opting for health insurance coverage as well. Delta Dental is the dental provider offered through Nevada County and VSP Vision Care is our vision care provider.

Retirement

The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
