Posting Summary | Postdoctoral scientist in CO2 Electro-catalysis/Artificial Photosynthesis An immediate position for a chemist or chemical engineer to predict and make catalysts for the electrochemical conversion of CO2 to multicarbon products.The successful candidate will design procedures for the prediction and synthesis of catalysts, validation of their atomic and electronic structure, integration within conducting materials/ electrodes, and determine their mechanisms of product formation and yields. Incorpration of the catalysts within electrolyzers and electrochemical reactors for converting gas to liquids/solids using electricity; microkinetic modelling of chemical mechanisms using computational tools. The individual will join a team of scientists/engineers working on renewable energy conversion and storage via chemicals that can replace petrochemical and biological feedstocks. Preferred backgrounds include chemistry, materials science, analytical chemistry and chemical engineering. The candidate will collaborator with experts in the field of: 1) ab initio electronic structure methods for elucidation of mechanisms; 2) design and fabrication of electrolyzers for CO2 conversion. Opportunities are available for exceptional candidates with strong publication records who are highly motivated regardless of their specific area of expertise. Funding for this project is provided by the Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. Physical Demands and Work Environment | 40 hours per week , on site in a laboratory environment, and movement between multiple laboratories in different buildings. |
