Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program and Events Coordinator for the Eagleton Institute of Politics. CAWP is the leading source of information about women and politics in the United States. Our mission is to promote greater knowledge and understanding about the role of women in American politics, enhance women's influence in public life, and expand the diversity of women in politics and government. A crucial component of that mission developing education and outreach strategies which translate research findings into action, and addressing women's underrepresentation in political leadership with effective, intersectional, and imaginative programs serving a variety of audiences.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Assists the program and senior staff in managing all logistics and administrative tasks relating to CAWP's public programming.
  • Follows up on invitations, contracts, planning processes, logistics, communications, promotion, records, materials, invoice processing, and documents related to events.
  • Organizes, administers, and coordinates lectures, forums, educational programs and other events for the Center for American Women and Politics.
  • Serves as the program team lead on the annual NEW Leadership New Jersey program and the annual Teach a Girl to Lead Book Reading Project.
  • For NEW Leadership NJ, responsible for: student participant recruitment processes, and developing and updating recruitment and promotional material and information. Develops program materials, curriculum and agenda. Manages all program logistics including housing, transportation, meals, and budget.
  • Assists senior staff and faculty on other educational programming and special projects, including facilitating guest visits and field trips.
  • Assists communications and other staff in creating external-facing communications focused on sharing information more widely about all our public programs, including to press and on social media.
  • On occasion, all members are asked to participate in Institute-wide and/or cross-team projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required for this position.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have knowledge of US and NJ government and politics.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable meeting and working with a broad range of people - from high level public officials to media representatives to vendor staff to students - in a variety of highly visible settings.
  • Must be able to independently manage multiple tasks and short deadlines in high-stress situations.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be very organized, efficient, and detail-oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Political Science, Gender Studies or related experience in those fields.
Equipment Utilized
  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Two years of relevant experience is strongly preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Eagleton offices are located within a historic building with no elevator.
  • The duties of this position regularly involve navigating stairs numerous times a day.
