About the Position: In an exciting and challenging environment, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the development of both installation and equipment modifications throughout the facility and has responsibility for complete management of projects in accordance with established budgets and specification requirements from development to overall completion.  The Mechanical Engineer also meets with and oversees contractors utilized in such projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Assists the Maintenance Department with problem solving of mechanical and hydraulic systems throughout the facility.
  • Maintains continuous improvement to plant equipment installations/projects.
  • Has knowledge of large baghouse systems.
  • Writes specifications for bids.
  • Solicits, evaluates and negotiates contracts for bids.
  • Estimates, schedules and assures projects come in on budget.
  • Interfaces with contractors and equipment suppliers
  • Assists the Director of Steelmaking Technology, as needed.
  • Other projects as requested, including travel (local, national and international) if required.
  • Abides by all policies and procedures established by the Company including plant safety regulations and work rules.
  • Must have ability and desire to work well with others.
  • Meets attendance requirements.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or a commensurate level of related experience and education.
  • Minimum ten (10) years experience in a mechanical engineer position in a steel or heavy industry environment.  Environmental experience is a plus.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Required to have an active and valid driver's license, or the ability to travel and commute as required, and comply with the Motor Vehicle Safety Program
  • Willingness to travel, when necessary
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn
