The Senior Mail Operations Pharmacist is responsible for the accurate and timely dispensing of prescribed medication to patients. The Senior Mail Operations Pharmacist work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

Location: Onsite New Hyde Park, NY

Hours: This is a part time role. The hours are 4-8pm Monday thru Friday and PRN.

The Staff Mail Operations Pharmacist ensures adherence to quality assurance standards, accurate tracking techniques and a review process prior to shipping medications to patients. Begins to influence department's strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Summary:

  • Checks and verifies prescription for accuracy, standard compliance, dosing or dosage form errors, and adjusts documentation and labeling as needed.

  • Assure the workflow is optimized.

  • Provides input into development of standards, policies, and procedures for achieving and maintaining high quality patient care.

  • Oversees the work of support personnel including direct supervision of fulfillment pharmacy technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Check and verify Rx label, drug name, strength, dosage form, and quantity with the dispensed medication.

  • At reject and edit workstation, researches and validates correct dosage directions, medication, and dosage forms and edits and corrects as needed. Communicates these changes via email or documentation. Review internal comments and encounter for discrepancies.

  • Maintains proper control and care of drug supplies and equipment. Follow SOP for out-of-stock notification.

  • Monitors established quality assurance measurements for the department to meet objectives and regulatory requirements.

  • In the manual pharmacist setting, provides clinical input to assure rational drug therapy, including checking for proper dosages, adding oral syringes or, medication cups for liquid doses, and attaching appropriate warning labels to Rx container or vial.

  • Sign and approve all compounded dispenses and sign log sheets for checking prepack labels prior to release for dispensing. Assist in prepacking when needed.

  • Assist in pharmacy end-of-day closing and verify SOPs have been followed.

  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency in the dispensing and checking systems with acceptable verification rates and overall efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy

  • Licensed as a Pharmacist in New York

  • Ability to participate in Federal prescription programs

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong commitment to patient care

  • Self-motivated and self-directed with a sense of urgency

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

  • Ability to perform a variety of complicated tasks, often simultaneously

  • Ability to maintain control in stressful situations and offer leadership as needed.

  • Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of others resulting in constructive working relationships.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  • Currently in compliance with mandatory continuing education requirements.

Education and/or Experience

BS in Pharmacy

PharmD Preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years experience in a high volume community or mail order pharmacy practice environment

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$122,700 - $168,900 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
