Work Schedule: Must be available for working on all or any shifts, 365 days a year, including weekends and Holidays. Community Overview: Welcome to our Community! Scope of Job: The Security Guard's principle function is to monitor incoming and outgoing traffic at the facility. This includes all pedestrian, automotive and truck traffic twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week including Holidays. Their work instructions are given by means of either brief verbal or simple written instructions. The Security Guards are responsible for assuring the quality of their own work and therefore, work without close supervision. The Security Guards are the first to interact with drivers, visitors, customers, and others - and therefore need to exhibit strong interpersonal skills. Multi-tasking is a key success factor in this position due to the many activities taking place simultaneously. Security Job Responsibilities: Authorizes, registers, and directs all incoming and outgoing truck traffic; coordinates activity with Shipping and Receiving Personnel. Screens and registers all visitor traffic; contacts appropriate plant personnel accordingly and accepts and forwards literature left at gate. Accepts and records all package passes; inspects an employee's personal belongings, if necessary. Operates the telephone switchboard Telephones employees when necessary Seals trucks and records seal numbers. Maintains call-in log database and hard-copy Manage mail deliveries to/from plant Receive deliveries from courier companies Provides information to employees and visitors; via phone and in person Fill out schedule for following day's Raw Materials & Receiving Adjusts tapes in the guardsman watch clock. Responsible for the general housekeeping responsibilities of their work area; clean entire guardhouse on a weekly basis. Clears snow from main gate and plant entrance during weekends; telephones outside contractor to clear parking lot as needed. Turns plant lights off and on during weekend hours for energy conservation purposes. Secures and inspects all outside gates during weekend hours. Conducts an hourly plant inspection during weekend hours using a key sentry system; makes contact with Boiler Operator during round. Checks for fire, leaks, hazards, etc. Alerts the plant of threatening weather conditions. Submits a guard report on a weekly basis Ensure guards are replaced when not available (due to sickness, funeral, etc.) Oversees plant parking facilities; directs traffic periodically; reports any parking/driving violations; keeps fire lane open. Delivers lab plates to cooler over weekends. Empty humidifiers in Lab & Distribution Handle emergencies - alert ERT Monitor weather conditions - alert plan (via alarms) when necessary Monitor gate access and assist employees/visitors/drivers when necessary Manage scheduling of guards with the input/cooperation of all guards Other duties as assigned Equipment Operated: Guards operate on a regular basis the following equipment: CB Radio Police scanner Guardsman watch clock Telephone switchboard Call-in Log & Database Nextel radio; Gates & Security Camera system; larm system (severe weather, emergency) Responsible for all cleaning equipment, such as high-speed buffer and scrubber. Must have knowledge of basic hand tools. Computer Skills: MS Outlook (email) MS Word CCure Badging/Security System operation; Matrix (truck receiving/shipping) Data entry Lifting Requirements: Moderate - Physical requirements are normally sedentary with the exception of snow shoveling. Working Conditions: Fair - Weekend rounds require walking through the entire plant on an hourly basis. The working environment is basically good; exposure to outside temperature extremes does occur during winter months. Hazards are minimal (truck traffic). Training: A three-week training program is recommended for the new employee. An individual would be expected to become 90% competent after six weeks. Special training will be done on chemicals related to the job to be familiar with MSDS's for areas assigned. Responsibility for training new employees hired into position.
