Purpose
Operational resilience has increasingly become a critical component of day-to-day operations for financial institutions. The ability to operate during disruptive events helps sustain business, minimize disruption, enhance client confidence, and ensure regulatory compliance. Being operationally resilient will ultimately drive the overall success for Scotiabank U.S.
This role will report directly to the Head of U.S. Operational Resilience and facilitate and support the implementation of Operational Resilience self-assessment activities by partnering with stakeholders across businesses, functions, and regions to drive program initiatives.
What You’ll Do
Primary Responsibilities:
Coordinate workshops with business stakeholders to facilitate annual self-assessments including:
Identification of critical business services
Mapping of critical service dependencies
Identification of impact tolerance thresholds
Identification of Minimal Viable Operations (MVOs)
Coordinate Testing of critical business services as required including:
Test Planning
Test Execution
Post-Test reporting including lessons learned, risk and gap identification and remediation coordination
Assist in developing Risk Reporting that highlight key risks and steps that will be taken to address risks
Partner with stakeholders from other areas to ensure cohesiveness and consistency across pillars, including but not limited to, IT, Cyber, Business Continuity, Third Party Risk Management (TPRM), Operational Risk
Work closely with GBM Operational Resilience as well as Enterprise to ensure consistency in strategy and approach
Support compliance with evolving internal and external guidelines, standards, policies, and regulations; prepare and submit reports to regulatory bodies as required
Collaborate with the Incident Response Coordinator to manage the bank's response to incidents; proactively understand and drive an Operational Resilience lens within specific events
Participate in post-incident reviews to improve future response efforts
Other Responsibilities:
Support the controls framework within U.S. Operational Resilience; ensure timely and adequate closure relating to regulatory findings, audits, and/or first line testing; proactively identify areas for improvement, taking initiative to remediate
Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Champion a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vision/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
What You’ll Bring
Experience in supporting a large, complex program, engaging with stakeholders across lines of defense and regions
Ability to identify, articulate, and mitigate key risks within the program as well as the Operational Resilience framework more broadly
Ability to manage competing priorities within a program
Understanding of principles and best practices in Operational Resilience, business continuity; and disaster recovery
Understanding of risk assessment/TPRM strategies, mitigation strategies, and incident response processes
Basic understanding of technology and cyber landscape, including associated risks
Ability to develop senior level presentations in PowerPoint and leverage MS Excel to perform data analytics and develop reports that will provide insights to senior leaders
Financial services industry experience a must; direct Capital Markets experience preferred
