Guilford Press Accounting Assistant in New York, New York

Guilford Press, an independent academic/scholarly publisher of high-quality works in Psychology, Education, Research Methods, and related fields, for professionals and the general reader, has an excellent opportunity in our Accounting Department for one looking to start or develop a career in accounting and bookkeeping.

Guilford seeks a candidate with strong organizational skills with some experience in basic bookkeeping/accounting abilities. This candidate needs to be accurate in their work, able to manage several different daily tasks, and meet deadlines. A key focus of this position is handling weekly accounts payable check runs and posting customer payments. As a member of the four-person accounting team, this position plays a support role to two Lead Accountants and our Staff Accountant. The Accounting Assistant will have the opportunity to learn a broad range of accounting skills, hone their current skills, and learn the financial processes involved in publishing.

Responsibilities
•Responsible for weekly accounts payable check runs, and the posting of customer and subsidiary rights payments.
•Communicate deposit information to staff as needed.
•Collaborate with customer service team to resolve chargebacks.
•Handle reconciliations on a range of balance sheet accounts.
•Enter monthly and quarterly journal entries.
•Handle the posting of address changes for authors.
•Support Staff Accountant in a range of administrative/accounting tasks.

Requirements
•A minimum of one year of experience in an administrative function, preferably involving accounting or bookkeeping duties, or closely related administrative skills.
•Excellent Excel skills in organizing and managing data in spreadsheets.
•Strong data entry abilities with an emphasis on accuracy while meeting deadlines.
•Ability and willingness to collaborate/communicate within a department and across an organization.
•Understanding of the importance of a customer service mindset, both internally with colleagues and, as needed, externally with customers.
•Ability to learn new skills and technologies.

Work Arrangements
This position is based out of our New York City office (near Penn Station in midtown Manhattan). This is not a remote work opportunity. Being available for in-office work on an ongoing basis is a key component of this position.

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $22.50 to $23.00 per hour with eligibility for overtime.
