NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Associate Director of College-in-Prison Programs - Prison Education Program in New York, New York
Position Summary
The Associate Director of College-in-Prison Programs serves as a lead member of the NYU Prison Education Program (PEP) team. Implement and expand NYU’s degree program offered to approximately 70 incarcerated students enrolled at Wallkill Correctional Facility. Lead PEP’s year-round programming through regular negotiation with the Correctional Facility Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent of Programs, and Education Supervisor at Wallkill. Oversee daily operations and time-sensitive communications with faculty, correctional staff, and current students to ensure successful coursework delivery four days per week. Coordinate project-based work including college admissions, student life programming, volunteer supervision, transportation to prison, faculty course support, and degree completion. Oversee maintenance of student enrollment, academic student records, student handbooks, and materials, with support from the Administrative Aide. Direct PEP staff access and programming within the facility, including student support meetings and pre-release documentation by the Re-entry Program Coordinator and Associate Director of Continuing Education. Consult with Albany-based leadership in the New York State Department of Corrections as needed, represent NYU on the New York Consortium for Higher Education in Prisons, and work with PEP Administrative and Faculty Directors to develop best practices and find solutions for operating quality higher education programs within prisons.
Qualifications
Required Education:Bachelor's DegreePreferred Education:Master's DegreeRequired Experience:3+ years of demonstrated experience or equivalent combination of experience and education in non-profit administration. Must be able to meet strict deadlines and maintain consistent time-sensitive communications.Preferred Experience:Familiarity and/or experience working with incarcerated people, justice-impacted communities, or the Department of Corrections. Knowledge and experience in maintaining digital resources, computer lab, and classroom technology in a correctional facility or without access to the internet.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Valid driver’s license with clear driving record. Self-starter with positive relationship-building skills. Strong written skills with an attention to detail and ability to plan ahead. Passionate about student life and academic success. Able to be flexible, problem-solve under pressure, and find creative solutions. Must be able to meet strict deadlines and maintain consistent time-sensitive communications. Excellent knowledge of administration software such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Ability to work in PEP’s office on the Washington Square campus. Ability to drive once per week (or more as needed), out of the city, a two-hour commute each way to Wallkill, New York. Ability to work within a prison and comply with correctional facility requirements including being without a phone or smart technology while working on-site.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge and experience in maintaining digital resources, computer lab, and classroom technology in a correctional facility or without access to the internet.
Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $75,000.00 to USD $85,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
