The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Culinary Medicine and Community Nutrition Coordinator will develop and maintain relationships with community organizations to promote nutrition education and coordinate CUIMC nutrition volunteer efforts within the Washington Heights and greater NYC areas. The Culinary Medicine and Community Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for supervising IHN student and alumni groups working on nutrition-related initiatives, including the IHN Food COOP and the Columbia Culinary Medicine Club. The Culinary Medicine and Community Nutrition Coordinator will also have an active role in creating and leading research projects in nutrition education and culinary medicine and will support IHN faculty in curricular development involving these areas.

Responsibilities

Student and Alumni Organizations [30%]
  • Supervise and guide the efforts of the Columbia Culinary Medicine Club student group and the alumni-led IHN Food Coop by attending group meetings and guiding/supporting events.
  • Ensure group events/announcements are properly announced through IHN and CUIMC.
  • Conduct a yearly review of each group efforts.
  • Maintain copies of groups documents within IHN.
  • Ensure budget items are properly reported to IHN.
Service - Community Engagement [20%]
  • Work with the CUIMC Office of Government and Community Affairs to maintain community relationships and develop & foster nutrition and culinary medicine programs.
  • Integrate efforts of Columbia Culinary Medicine and IHN Food Coop with the needs of the local community.
Academic and Scholarly Activity [50%]
  • Work with IHN Director and IHN faculty to develop nutrition and culinary medicine research projects.
  • Assist with the design and writing of research projects related to nutrition and culinary medicine.
  • Provide support in curricular development as it relates to nutrition and culinary medicine.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Certified Dietitian registered in New York State
  • Training in Culinary Medicine
  • Minimum of four years related experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Strong interpersonal and outstanding organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students and community stakeholders
  • Ability to work well with a team and independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic health institution
  • Spanish fluency
