NBC Universal Director, Technical Accounting & Policy in New York, New York

Role Purpose:

Reporting to the Vice President of Technical Accounting and Policy, the Director, Technical Accounting and Policy, will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. This role will serve as a key resource for technical accounting issues, including the interpretation and application of accounting principles, standards, and regulations. The role will involve reviewing complex transactions, developing accounting policies, and providing guidance to both internal stakeholders and external auditors. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain company’s accounting policies to ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards

  • Analyze complex transactions and accounting issues, providing guidance on appropriate treatment and documentation

  • Assist with the end-to-end implementation of accounting policies and best practices

  • Proactively monitor, review, research and interpret GAAP and analyze emerging accounting pronouncements for policy/financial statement implications

  • Develop interpretations and communications related to new accounting standards and ensure consistency across the organization

  • Support accurate financial reporting across NBCU

  • Review documents to identify accounting issues and propose solutions or alternatives

  • Manage the research, documentation and accounting resolution for new and/or proposed transactions

  • Consult with Comcast, business units and external auditors on technical accounting matters and the application and development of accounting policies

  • Document and communicate the accounting for transactions

  • Assist Comcast with developing responses to standard setters’ exposure drafts and other proposals

  • Liaise with outside auditors on accounting topics and the adoption of new standards

  • Assist in the preparation of financial reporting disclosures (MD&A and Footnotes) for new accounting standards and completed transactions

  • Assist in ensuring compliance across organization of all aspects of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)

  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Accounting  and 7+ years of work experience within big four professional accounting firms and an accounting policy function or similar group, leading complex accounting transactions and driving best practices and procedures

  • Proven business partner with the ability to problem solve, drive resolution, guide and counsel on a wide variety of internal reporting priorities; ability to build credibility quickly

  • CPA license required to be maintained

Desired Characteristics:

  • A mix of public accounting and corporate accounting experience is highly preferred

  • Experience working across multiple lines of business with a variety of complex products or services, all in an environment of great change is highly desired

  • Demonstrates a high degree of technical proficiency and experience with complex accounting research and technical accounting activities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels

  • Ability to interact with various levels of finance personnel with ability to explain complex accounting in succinct manner; a good listener

  • Positive sense of ownership and commitment to achieving results

  • Advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills

  • Skilled project management experience with an ability to multitask and work on several projects, ensuring processes are followed and deadlines are met

  • Entertainment and media industry experience a plus

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $125,000 - $170,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible).
