HarperCollins Publishers International Sales Manager, Closed Market (Adult) in New York, New York

Overview

The International Sales Department at HarperCollins Publishers is looking for an experienced Sales Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with HarperCollins’ overseas offices and customers around the world. Reporting to the Senior Director, International Sales, this person will oversee print and digital sales for the General Books and Harlequin lists in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, India, and South Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Build a strong working relationship with affiliate companies and distributors, including colleagues at Harper360 UK, Harper Australia, Harper New Zealand, Harper India, and our exclusive distributor in South Africa

  • Work with affiliates to curate publishing programs, including defining focus titles and determining titles to be assigned for full Marketing & Publicity campaigns.

  • Cultivate monthly pub lists for each market and ensure all metadata is accurate

  • Organize regular meetings to present upcoming titles and to share editorial, marketing, and publicity updates with affiliate teams

  • Manage communication with Publishers and authors – including local on-sale dates, sales updates, and marketing and publicity opportunities within assigned territory

  • Work with International Marketing & Publicity Manager to develop M&P strategies with affiliates, including sourcing US marketing plans and assets, managing PR needs, as well as developing strategies unique to assigned territory

  • Oversee digital sales and merchandising in assigned territories, including sharing eBook pricing, promotions, and retailer updates and best practices

  • Work with Rights department and Publishers to clear and obtain World rights. Proactively investigate rights queries and undertake larger rights projects to ensure rights are accurately reflected in metadata.

  • Work with Senior Director, International Sales to create business development strategy and growth plans, including exploring new business channels.

  • Create and maintain monthly forecasts for each territory and effectively communicate opportunities and challenges in assigned territories.

  • Develop sales and marketing strategies to support the growth of backlist sales

  • Provide sales projections for acquisition and print runs

  • Coordinate with affiliates and Sr. Manager, Intl Sales Ops to determine optimal local pub date and shipping methods, including local prints, bindery shipments, and POD.

  • Oversee the local prints process in UK, ANZ, India

  • Travel 2-4 times per year to visit key customers in territory

Qualifications

  • Proven success in a sales environment

  • 3-5 years of experience in Book Publishing, in Sales or Foreign Rights

  • Experience running a sales territory and being responsible for a sales budget

  • Poise and ability to gracefully communicate across all levels of the organization

  • Comfortable speaking with and presenting to C-Suite executives on a regular basis

  • Must be able to work late or early hours to accommodate weekly and bi-weekly meetings with affiliates in different time zones

  • Able to travel 2-4 times per year

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated

  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills

  • Entrepreneurial spirit; ability to work autonomously and take ownership of territory responsibilities

  • Resourceful problem solver

  • Tenacious and able to meet strict deadlines

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and always evolving sales environment

  • Capable of managing several projects simultaneously

  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of MS Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and databases.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
