Your impact on team

We are seeking three Manager, User Experience (UX) Design, who are passionate about leading and mentoring our team of designers. As a key member of our School UX organization, you will guide the design vision and drive execution of high-impact projects through a user-centered approach to product development. The Manager, UX Design will use research insights to lead and execute design for web and mobile solutions for K-12 curriculum experiences through collaboration with business stakeholders, Content and Digital Strategy, Learning Sciences, Research & Analytics, Accessibility, Product Management, and Engineering teams. A Continuous Discovery and Delivery framework is the base for this approach, which includes collaborating with research to apply human-centered methodologies and deliver valuable, high quality, accessible digital experiences for teachers and students.

You are a seasoned design leader with a proven track record of guiding and mentoring teams to deliver exceptional user experiences. You possess a deep understanding of design principles, methodologies, and the ability to translate business objectives into actionable design decisions. With strong strategic thinking and expertise in problem framing, design systems, pattern libraries, and modular design approaches, you excel at identifying, defining, and solving complex system design challenges. You are highly skilled at collaboration, adept at facilitating design thinking workshops and fostering cross-functional partnerships with product management, research, and accessibility teams. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills are essential. You can present ideas with confidence, gain buy-in, and inspire others at the organizational and company level. You are hands-on, able to execute the work, mentor, and train others to do the same. You have end-to-end UX expertise, from persona definition, journey mapping, information architecture, user flow design, and interaction design, to prototyping and high-fidelity visual design, supporting the delivery of high quality, accessible and optimally usable experiences for our end users.

This is a remote position open to applicants located and authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What You'll Do:

  • Be a change agent evangelizing and bringing awareness to human-centered methodologies and practices across the company, supporting cross-functional product teams at different levels of maturity.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the broader objectives and business goals with consideration for the larger School platform experience in your work. Incorporate findings from existing research and analytics, along with intuition and sensibility, when making design decisions.
  • Collaborate with Product Research to define what we need to learn, help develop research plans, and then iteratively translate what we learn into engaging experiences for students and teachers. You can solve complex design problems and drive multiple efforts simultaneously.
  • Set an example of craft and collaboration - you are someone other designers seek out and learn from. You guide work for a significant program area, identify patterns across products, and handle complex projects with overlapping organizational lines.
  • Partner closely with engineering and product management to ensure experience designs are properly implemented and deliver value. You encourage close partnership and collaboration between designers and engineers, by modeling what good looks like.
  • Present and communicate ideas, concepts, and solutions with poise and professionalism tailored to various audiences, including senior leaders, stakeholders, peers, and direct reports. Coach your team as well as the broader UX team to do the same.
  • People manage one or more designers, supporting individual development planning and goal setting aligned to business objectives. Mentor designers on both discovery and delivery best practices and processes, influence, and communication skills.

About You:

  • Minimum of 5 to 8+ years' work experience in digital user experience, product development, product design, creative, or marketing industries, along with 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates your design work in web and mobile solutions. We want to see and understand your process and how you collaborate across functions within the Product Development Lifecycle.
  • Product development experience in Ed Tech a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of UX wireframe and prototyping software (i.e., Figma), experience with front end frameworks like Bootstrap and React, as well as basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Extensive experience creating low and high-fidelity journey maps, workflows, sketches, and detailed design documentation.
  • Knowledge in software usability principles and current trends and advances in interface design.
  • Demonstrated success leading design efforts across multiple products to achieve a central solution.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and analytical skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction, human factors engineering, information architecture, digital design, interaction design, or related field.
  • Deep understanding of responsive design approaches as well as accessibility guidelines
  • Examples of value delivered for target audiences, while working in an Agile environment.
  • Impeccable organization and time/project management skills, as well as exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks. Must be able to maintain own workflow, produce results, and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially as they relate to presenting, articulating, and defending design decisions to different audiences.

  • Master's degree in human-computer interaction, human factors engineering, information architecture, digital design, interaction design, or related field.

The pay range for this position is between $120,000 - $150,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
