The Metadata Services Librarian will work across all divisions of the Libraries to lead the development and coordination of our ILS (integrated library system), working with all library staff, as needed. The position will lead troubleshooting, support, and configuration projects and related communications with the ILS vendor. The incumbent will be charged with utilizing knowledge of all areas of library workflows and data needs and utilizing intimate knowledge of library data types and how they interact, including but not limited to MARC, MARCXML, and Bibframe as well as other related standards and protocols, and local practices and implementations. Additionally, the position will develop and maintain staff and public facing web-based utilities and services, applying industry best practices as they pertain to security, accessibility, maintainability and scalability as well as document and provide training in the use of these services and utilities for staff.
The position will also assist with developing, updating, and maintaining custom tools (scripts, applications, etc.) to support workflows and the efficient management of the Library and its data, to interact with and enhance extant library systems, and to enhance the Library's ability to fulfill its mission. In addition, this role will also participate in library metadata projects, support and perform batch operations and data transformations, and provide software and workflow training to library staff on an as-needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Library Science or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and in-depth understanding of library business practices.
- Working knowledge of ILS and loibrary standards (e.g., MARC21, MARCXML and other common library tools).
- Excellent organizational, analytic, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to successfully support and communicate with persons at all levels of technical ability.
- Working knowledge of at least one of the following: JavaScript, Python, Perl or Ruby; familiarity with SQL.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, XML, Boolean Logic, and regular expressions.
- Prior experience with vendor communication and project management.
Salary Range: $78,450 - $88,4200
