Bowery Residents Committee Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - 315 West 35th Street in Manhattan, New York

Two NPs are sought, one to work based in the Bronx, upper Manhattan and Queens and one to work in Brooklyn, lower Manhattan, and lower Queens. Travel to sites can be via MetroCard or agency vehicle. There are ample opportunities to help train new learners for more established NPs and for new NPs, there is a supportive environment with weekly formal supervision with highly experienced NPs as well as thoughtful orientation period with frequent check ins.

Responsible for providing psychiatric services to the clients served by the Outreach team. Work alongside other clinicians in the field to contact, build rapport with and assess clients residing in and around the transit system (about 30% of the time) and to work ongoing with clients served by the team in office settings (about 70% of the time). Clarify diagnoses, participate in care conferences, perform crisis intervention and work alongside program and agency leadership to help design and implement care strategies to improve client outcomes. The NP will be supported in obtaining their 9.58 to enable them to assist in involuntary removals of clients as necessary. Collaborate extensively with other staff on the team. Perform psychiatric assessments, recommend interventions to team members and other service providers in the community (hospitals, care managers, etc.) and provide ongoing care for our clients. Work extensively in systems (PSYKES, SPOA, Healthix) to coordinate care and referrals and to monitor for alerts on our most vulnerable clients. Related Duties as assigned.

Schedule:

Sunday-Thursday or Tues-Sat with 7.5 hour days

or Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday with 10 hour days

QUALIFICATIONS:

NY NP licensed psychiatric nurse practitioner, ANCC certified or planning to test within 90 days with active NPI and DEA . Have prior experience working with a MICA population. Ability to obtain a 9.58 removal designation. CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Jointly funded by the Department of Homeless Services and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, BRC's Transit Homeless Outreach staff members operate throughout the transit system 24 hours a day. Through this program, which BRC has operated since 2005, BRC provides outreach and case management services to humanely assist homeless individuals to permanently relocate from MTA properties. Due to a recent expansion, BRC has many new outreach positions available. The program serves the New York City metropolitan area, including the boroughs of Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. Clients of Transit Homeless Outreach are engaged and assessed with the goal of connecting them with housing and essential services.
