The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Manley Laboratory studies several aspects of gene expression, principally in human cells. These include transcription of mRNA encoding genes, and splicing and polyadenylation of the resultant mRNA precursors. The Manley lab is a highly dynamic, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environment, committed to promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion in science.

The Research Staff Assistant will report to the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will provide support for ongoing experiments in a Molecular biology/biochemistry laboratory. The experiments will focus on the synthesis errors in mRNA and how they lead to human diseases.

This is a 1 year full-time grant-funded position with the possibility of renewal contingent on securing additional funding.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the PI in conducting research on non-coding RNAs and/or RNA splicing factor mutations and their effects on cancer cell models. This includes DNA, RNA and protein isolation from cultured human cells/tissues and analysis by sequencing, PCR or Western blot as appropriate.
  • Maintains laboratory cleanliness along with the PI which includes organizing, and ensuring the necessary supply stock.
  • Works with EH&S and radiation safety to ensure lab compliance with University and New York State guidelines.
  • Supports PI in submitting requests for chemical waste pickup and ensuring weekly pickup of biohazard waste.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a scientific discipline.
  • 6 months of experience in a research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field.
  • 1-2 years of research experience preferably in natural sciences.
