The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Gaublomme Laboratory conducts research on creating and applying technologies to study biological cells and the biomolecular interactions that drive their intra- and intercellular signaling. The Gaublomme lab is a highly dynamic, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environment, committed to promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion in science.

The Research Staff Assistant will report to the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will use genomics, proteomics, molecular biology, and computational approaches to systematically dissect pathway behavior in mammalian cells.

This is a 1-year full-time grant-funded position with the possibility of renewal contingent on securing additional funding.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in performing microscopy (spinning disc confocal), molecular biology, cloning, lentiviral preparations, as well as other advanced molecular and cellular methods.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance such as receiving reagents shipped to the lab and storing them in the assigned location (fridge/Freezer, shelves, etc.), sterilizing incubators and tissue culture hoods, making media for cell culture, maintaining stock solutions, cleaning of glassware associated with cloning efforts.
  • Keeps track of the lab stock, manages chemical inventory and safety records, and provides general lab support as needed.
  • Provides support in setting up experiments for the P.I. or collaborates with the experiments (molecular biology experiments (enzymatic reactions), microscopy measurements (imaging of biosamples), cloning of plasmids.
  • Coaches new staff or students on lab procedures and techniques.
  • Perform related duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three months of related research experience in an academic research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with immunofluorescence, microscopy, PCR, cloning, and Python.
  • Knowledge and experience of basic techniques in any of the following fields: molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, engineering, physics, chemistry, or related fields.
  • Experience working with general computers and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
