Robert Half Staff Accountant in New York, New York

Description We are offering a contract employment opportunity for a Staff Accountant role situated in New York. This role is in the non-profit industry and involves comprehensive accounting tasks, including month-end close journal entries, analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts, and general accounting support.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare month-end close journal entries and maintain accurate records

• Conduct account reconciliations and analyses for balance sheet and income statement accounts

• Provide general accounting support and assist with ad hoc analyses

• Prepare monthly contract cost reimbursement schedules for funding sources

• Assist in the preparation of annual external audit schedules and liaise with external auditors

• Gather and review financial data from various departments and sources, and prepare journal entries to transfer or distribute data to the general ledger

• Identify and investigate unusual or unexpected items during the month-end close and report findings

• Ensure that direct expenses coded to grants/contracts are allowable under grant/contract and maintain tracking of revenue and expenses to total contract amounts

• Reconcile all billings to the general ledger and analyze budget to actual variances

• Use Oracle or similar software and Microsoft Excel for various accounting tasks.

Skills:

• Proficiency in Account Reconciliation, Month End Close, Journal Entries, Year End Closings

• Proficiency in Oracle and Microsoft Excel

• Ability to meet tight deadlines within a corporate setting. Requirements • Experience in the non-profit sector is highly desirable

• Proficiency in using Oracle software for accounting tasks

• Demonstrated skills in Account Reconciliation

• Previous experience with Month End Close procedures

• Ability to draft and manage Journal Entries

• Familiarity with Year End Closings

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial reporting and analysis

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation

• Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work

• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
