The anticipated salary range for this role is between $73,000.00 and $95,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. (CM) is a derivatives trading company which was started in 1988 and is based in New York City, with offices in London and Hong Kong. SMBC CM is an established derivatives dealer with a broad product portfolio, with specific emphasis on interest rates and foreign exchange products such as interest & FX swaps, FRAs, options, exotic products, commodity derivatives as well as exchange traded products such as treasury bonds, interest rate futures & options, currency futures, treasury futures & options, etc.

We are looking to hire Planning Specialist to support our senior management to implement and execute the business strategy and internal controls, including relevant financial matters, group company contracts, reporting to our Tokyo Head Office, and various derivatives-related projects.

Role Objectives

  • Manage relevant financial matters including budget preparation, management accounting, expense control, etc.

  • Cover various projects including our new derivatives business, any company-wide reorganizations, new systems, regulatory preparation etc.

  • Support tasks related to group company contracts, like service level agreements and dual employee agreements.

  • Provide strategic reporting to our Tokyo Head Office, SMBC Capital Markets management, and relevant group entities.

  • Maintain strong relationships with members of the Planning Department, senior management, relevant departments, and SMBC group entities.

  • Effectively collaborate on meetings & discuss key topics with internal stakeholders and management teams.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bilingual Japanese language skills (verbal & written) required for communication with Tokyo head office.

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, and financial products including derivatives is preferred.

  • Project management skills are preferred.

  • High degree of attention to details and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to present clearly and articulately to senior management.

  • Ability to work well with internal departments across various departments and SMGC group entities.

  • Motivated, self-driven and takes personal ownership on delivering to the highest quality.
