The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA’s various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.
General Support Services (GSS) / Facilities Operations (FO) is recruiting for one (1) Custodian IV to function as a Supervising Building Custodian, who will:
Direct and coordinate all area building cleaning and maintenance operations at City-leased and City-owned buildings utilized by RRA program and support components.
Supervise custodial staff, including senior building custodians, building custodians, assistant building custodians, junior building custodians, custodial assistants, and contracted staff assigned to buildings in custodial areas in order that agency buildings might be properly maintained.
Develop and implement control and scheduling of all phases of cleaning and maintenance to ensure efficient building operation.
Assess building conditions regarding cleanliness and maintenance and visiting each location and taking necessary measures to correct any deficiencies.
Maintain inventory and provide for distribution of custodial and maintenance supplies and equipment.
Prepare and submit reports on status of building conditions, staffing supplies and equipment.
Arrange for appropriate training of staff.
Work Location: Various Locations
Hours/Schedule: Rotating shifts 6:00 – 14:30 and 14:30 – 22:30, Monday through Friday as needed.
Qualifications
Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
To be assigned to Assignment Level III and IV candidates must have four years of satisfactory experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" above.
