Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Enrollment, Revenue and Administration, in collaboration with the Dean and Department Chairs, and in conjunction with the Office of Strategic Communications, the Communications Manager will be a strategic partner in all aspects of communication, marketing, branding, and the public presentation of the Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD). The Communications Manager will have a key role in all external communications and will actively pursue opportunities to promote Hillier College.

Essential Functions:

  • Build/expand a brand for the college that speaks to recruiting, alumni engagement, professional practice and higher education audiences.

  • Generate and edit written and visual promotional material about the college, faculty research, and students, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, videos, digital image galleries, and other marketing material that communicates Hillier Colleges' activities, products and/or services.

  • Manage Hillier College web profile, search engine optimization, third party reporting sites.

  • Proactively maintain HCAD’s social media presence to ensure robust and timely content creation.

  • Compile and edit reports for external audiences including accreditors.

  • In conjunction with the Office of Strategic Communications, seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the HCAD brand.

  • Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.

  • Coordinate the development of an HCAD archive/repository of student and faculty work.

  • Interact with faculty and the leaders of the various student organizations to drive media content.

  • Collaborate across HCAD to develop and schedule exhibitions of faculty and student work for the Gallery and other display spaces.

  • Responsible for efforts before, during, and after events to enhance visibility and publicity, including for our flagship alumni engagement and fundraising event, Design Showcase, which is held annually. Coordinate with internal and external vendors to generate save-the-dates, invitations, and any necessary signage/branding for such events.

  • Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises student workers.

Additional Functions:

  • Collaborate with Hillier College leadership to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience.

  • Work collaboratively with the administrative support staff to ensure all activities requiring publicity are communicated appropriately throughout the College.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of progressive responsibilities in a communications role or related field.

  • Evening and weekend work as necessary.

  • Proficiency in Basic Desktop Publishing and Adobe Creative Suite; command of Microsoft Office and Google suite of products.

  • Comfort with social media platforms, related content creation, and content scheduling.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
