Position Summary:
The Fluid Locomotion Laboratory at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, led by Prof. Brooke Flammang, invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in the field of underwater attachment mechanics and bioinspired design. Position will begin as soon as August 2025.
Essential Functions:
The position will involve aiding in the development and testing of physical models of underwater attachment mechanisms, building upon the research group's efforts in biologically inspired attachment (https://bflammang.wixsite.com/fluidlocolab/research).
Prerequisite Qualifications:
A PhD in Biology, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, or a related area with experience in comparative biomechanics, robotics, and/or fluid dynamics is required.
A very strong quantitative background, including statistics and computer programming.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, shown by a strong publication record and presentations at conferences.
Excellent organizational, project management, data analysis and data management skills.
A strong interest in conducting interdisciplinary work as part of a collaborative team.
A strong interest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and broadening participation in STEM.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

The appointment is for one year initially, renewable based on satisfactory performance and available funding. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, and benefits are included. Appointments are subject to the University's background check policy. The work location for this position is in-person on campus in the Fluid Loco lab at NJIT.
