Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Director (Projects and Operations) in the Office of Faculty Affairs for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Science.The Senior Director is an integral member of the combined office of RBHS Academic Affairs which includes the Offices of Faculty Affairs and Academic and Student Affairs. The Senior Director will report to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA). Within the office, the Senior Director will be a key partner to the VCAA, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs. The office serves all the schools, institutes and centers within Rutgers Health. Other key partners include University offices including but not limited to University Human Resources, Payroll, Project Management Office, Office of General Counsel and the Office of University Labor Relations. The Senior Director will work across all levels of staff and faculty including but not limited to the Chancellor, Senior Vice Chancellors, Vice Presidents, Deans, and Chairs. The Senior Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing operations, processes, and systems to achieve a high level of efficiency and coordination. The position will handle a wide range of matters of institutional importance and exercise confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive matters.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Lead office-wide projects and initiatives, coordinates assignments and necessary follow-up, and monitors deadlines; develops project plans, coordinates project plans, and communicates changes and progress.
  • Provide strategic guidance in university wide processes to implement new systems and improve existing systems, including, but not limited to, HR/Payroll, Faculty Affairs, and student-related systems.
  • Direct operations to support the business practices and mission based on best practices. Continually seek process improvements.
  • Transform RBHS Faculty Affairs data governance efforts including establishing, modifying, and/or communicating policies, procedures, and roles related to faculty data access and data maintenance. Work alongside the RH Assistant Vice President for Information Technology to represent RBHS FA in data governance and sharing efforts.
  • Blend analytical rigor and creative storytelling to lead the creation of compelling data visualizations and reports to effectively communicate complex findings. Effectively present and communicate data and insights to a wide range of audiences.
  • Collaborate and at times lead cross-functional teams to clarify the questions to be answered, aggregate and interpret appropriate data, and communicate actionable strategies that support institutional strategic priorities.
  • Provide guidance to school faculty affairs offices and leadership (Deans, Chairs, etc) to ensure consistency in applying and complying with Rutgers and RBHS policies, practices, and collective negotiation agreements.
  • Provide strategic leadership in the planning and preparation for and negotiation of collective negotiations including, but not limited to, fiscal and impact modeling.
  • Directs policy development, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Lead the implementation of faculty affairs projects, specifically those in the collective negotiation agreements including but not limited to annual evaluations, merit processes, and placement at the 35th percentile.
  • Gather and analyze qualitative data on recruitment and retention and create action plans to address deficiencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree required.
  • Minimum of (10) years of relevant administrative expertise in an academic health system or university.
  • Must have at least (5) five years' experience with faculty affairs, clinical operations, and/or data analytics.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Database solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage highly complex situations and relationships required.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills required.
  • Strong supervisory skills to select, lead, and motivate staff as well as a highly collaborative style with the energy, maturity and leadership to serve as a unifying force.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all Rutgers and external constituencies.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment required.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel between campuses and to work with individuals who are not co-located.
  • Must be available to work some nights and weekends and have access to transportation.
  • Ability to work as a team member and with teams.
  • Ability to work with a high level of discretion and autonomy.
