WSP USA Associate Structural Engineer (Building Structures) in Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom

  • Responsible for the day-to-day design and project management of the project, working in a Project Manager and/or Lead Engineer role.

  • Responsible for leading the technical design delivery of the WSP multi-disciplinary team, who also will work under the design management of the Associate.

  • Operational responsibility for the WSP complying with the client’s technical project requirements, leading day to day client liaisons and with have overall design responsibility for all structural design works on the project.

  • Responsible for administering the contract and undertaking financial management of the project, in conjunction to our finance teams.

  • Responsible for day-to-day management/support and mentoring of the WSP technical staff on the project and will be work under the direction and support of the WSP Lead Project Manager and WSP Project Director.

  • Responsible for overseeing and managing a small number of engineers and technicians working directly on their projects. Manage their time and provide technical support to junior team members as part of their training and development.

  • Will be a ‘Chartered Engineer’, and able to demonstrate relevant post qualification experience through a range of projects;

  • Undertakes continuing professional development and reports this to institution annually.

  • Capable of running small-medium sized projects or a section of a large or technical complex project. Unless it is a significant large project, they would expect to be involved in several projects at any given time and be able to manage their time accordingly.

  • Have good written and spoken communication skills and be able to attend external project team meetings and design workshops and demonstrate a level of seniority and authority in front of clients in relation to the structural design and wider building design issues.

  • Understand the skills of other professionals in the construction team and can work as an effective member of a diverse team. Manages the interfaces and exchanges of information with other disciplines.

  • Has experience of the commercial delivery of project elements with a total / combined annual fee income of at least £200k per annum to time and budget including monthly financial reviews of WIP, forecasting and invoicing;

  • Understands the scope of contract that is in operation and supports Project Managers in substantiating variations and resolving contractual disputes.

  • Ensures that any issues with potential to impact on programme and / or scope are identified and communicated internally;

  • Shares knowledge learnt during the delivery of projects to improve discipline efficiency and productivity;

  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to build relationships with clients and architects to promote business growth and supports the preparation of bids.

  • Demonstrates experience of the coaching of at least two Graduate Engineers as an approved Institution Mentor/Delegated Engineer.
