Focus:The Millwright position is responsible for performing a variety of mechanical maintenance job duties in the chemical plant.
Millwright Essential Job Functions:
Millwrights perform a variety of mechanical maintenance job duties in a chemical plant; Repairs and maintains, aligns and balances, in accordance with diagrams, blueprints, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic and hydraulic tools and equipment, conveyor systems, steam and water systems and production machines and equipment, using hand tools, power tools and precision-measuring and testing instruments. Performs job activities in a safe manner in accordance with policies and procedures. Uses CMMS in daily work activities. Millwrights participate in safety meetings and training activities and follow established safety and operating procedures and practices.Wears specialized PPE such as full-face respiratory protection and chemical protection clothing as required.
- Observing Mechanical Devices in Operation and Troubleshooting:Observing mechanical devices while they are running to identify any issues. Troubleshooting problems by listening to sounds and analyzing performance.
- Using Nondestructive Measures: Utilizing techniques like vibration analysis, infrared, and borescope to assess device condition without causing damage.
- Dismantling Devices: Disassembling devices to gain access to defective parts. Using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools for removal.
- Inspecting Parts for Imperfections:Examining the form and texture of parts to detect flaws or irregularities.
- Measuring and Determining Changes: Inspecting used parts to assess dimensional changes.Using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjusting Functional Parts: Fine-tuning functional components of devices using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Repairing and Replacing Defective Parts: Fixing or replacing faulty parts using hand tools and power tools.
- Installing Special Functional and Structural Parts: Adding specialized components to devices using hand tools.
- Testing Devices After Repair: Verifying the functionality of repaired devices.
- Lubricating and Cleaning Parts: Applying lubricants and ensuring cleanliness.
- Operating Mobile Equipment: Handling forklifts, boom trucks, and cranes.
- Additional Skills May include, but not limited to:
- Setting up and operating drill presses, grinders, and other metalworking tools for making and repairing parts.
- Initiating orders for parts and machines.
- Operating welding equipment for cutting or welding parts.
Job activities may involve working near high voltage, heavy equipment, mobile equipment, moving and rotating equipment, various gases, hazardous chemicals, confined spaces, in high locations (up to 100 feet), congested areas and lifting up to 50 pounds. Improper actions or mistakes could result in accidents lethal to self and others. Shocks, burns and explosions are a potential hazard.
Errors in work could result in loss of production at a substantial cost. Errors could result in serious damage to machines, equipment and environment costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Errors could result in fines or litigation awards of substantial amount due to environmental or product liability issues.
Millwright Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of five years maintenance work experience as a millwright/machinist (industrial setting preferred) or Journey level millwright/machinist designation;andeither Pipefitting or Welding as a secondary craft.
- Journeylevel millwright/machinist designation preferred
- A complete employment application that explains a detailed work history required (resume must cover at least 5 years' work experience in a millwright/machinist position)
- Able to demonstrate basic computer skills, math and problem-solving; mechanical, numerical and verbal aptitude to learn our jobs quickly
- Must be able to work call-ins and overtime when support is needed
- Able to pass a functional physical testing and able to use standard safety equipment; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to climb ladders/stairs and work at heights
- Able to work in tight or closed-in spaces
- Pass a physical, drug screen and background check if job offer is received and accepted

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately $35 - $37 per hour. This salary range is only an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
