As a Senior Manager Software Engineering, you will play a key role in improving the provider digital clinical experience with Prior Authorization Experience in Optum/UHC Tech OC and leading a transformed a modernized web application. If you are looking to be part of a major application redesign, this position is perfect for you. You will be involved in solution design, development, performance tuning, acceptance testing, and implementation, acting as a hands-on agent of change.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Function as a hands-on engineering lead, managing a team of up to 6 to 10 employees and offshore resources

• Demonstrate an advanced level of understanding and application of general systems concepts, integrating them with business problem resolution

• Ensure solutions align with business and IT goals/objectives

• Identify enhancements to improve supportability, operability, or performance of applications within the application group and develop a business case to support these enhancements

• Collaborate with business partners/product owners to understand desired system functionality

• Understand new product capabilities and break down their implementation into specific functional changes for verification.

• Participate in design activities, monitor task and project completion

• Exercise independent judgment and discretion to prioritize, plan, and manage team activities

• Review code, provide feedback based on best practices, and improve performance

• Provide guidance to team members to enhance productivity

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Set achievable goals for team members and guide them to success

• Deliver all project deliverables on scope, on time, and within budget

Required Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience

• 8+ years of software engineering experience

• 5+ years of experience within a Java environment

• 2+ years of production experience with cloud technologies

• Experience in Troubleshoot production support issues post-deployment and provide required solutions

• Experience delivering software using Agile methodology

• In-depth knowledge of systems development life cycle and/or operational maintenance environment

• Proven solid organization and effective communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in developing project cost and benefit estimates, including identification and evaluation of alternatives

• Experience in providing training and assistance on a full range of technical issues to the broader team

• Experience in prototyping and performance tuning applications deployed across multiple operating systems, languages, and computing platforms

• Experience working in the healthcare industry

• Business rule engine experience

• Experience with the following:

• Streaming technology (e.g., Kafka)

• Cloud (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes)

• Database (e.g., NoSQL)

• Microservices architecture

• Web Development (e.g., React)

• Understanding of distributed architecture design principles
