The Director, Human Resources provides strategic leadership and consultative support to assigned internal client group(s) in the delivery and administration of talent & culture programs, policies and processes. This leader will proactively collaborate with client groups and HR key stakeholders to ensure successful planning and implementation of a broad range of people practices including employee relations; performance management; talent acquisition; workforce planning; change management; organizational development; talent review & succession planning; diversity, equity & belonging; compensation and benefits; and learning and development.

Your Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Communicates vision and direction that motivates and energizes the team

  • Manages and develops team to set and achieve department goals while leveraging department resources.

  • Serves as an inspirational coach and authentic leader, developing a high performing team and strategic business relationships.

  • Anticipates and plans for long-term human resource needs and trends in partnership with business leadership.

HR Business Partnership

  • Develops and nurtures strong business partnerships with internal client group(s). Serves as a single point of contact for all HR related topics and proactively leads and supports the delivery of HR programs and processes.

  • Implements solutions on routine and non-standard issues that arise; leads and facilitates client leadership to identify a balance between business needs and associate needs.

  • Collaborates with client group(s) and HR leadership on company-wide and department-specific Organizational Development and Change Management initiatives. Participates in establishing overall goals, objectives and measurable outcomes as they relate to client group(s). Leads and facilitates planning, implementation and communication of significant change, especially as it affects associates in client group(s).

  • Serves as a counselor and confidante to associates and leaders in assigned client group(s) in all areas of Human Resources, with a strong emphasis on coaching and counseling of employee relations issues or concerns.

  • Partners with client groups to help facilitate and provide successful on-boarding of newly hired, promote and transferred associates.

  • Partners with client group (s) to attain a talent mix that represents available talent pools and ensures equitable systems, opportunities, and leadership practices are in place. Mentors and/or connects leaders with appropriate resources and supports to ensure they are creating a workplace that engenders belonging and sets associates up to perform and thrive.

  • Makes recommendations to client group(s) on how to best reward, recognize and retain associates, in alignment with Choice’s Values & Performance Principals and overarching business strategy.

Employee Relations

  • Provides effective leadership, consultation and resolution on employee relations issues; encourages a balanced approach and solutions that work best for the company and associates.

  • Proactively collaborates with client group(s) to help identify and implement employee relations strategies that minimize the risk of incidents. Provides guidance and consultation to client group(s) on how to avoid potential employee problems and issues.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of current employment law and HR Best Practices; interprets applicability of employment law and company policy.

  • Participates in the development of effective associate communications concerning HR policies, procedures, programs and activities.

  • Maintains employee relations records.

Performance Management and Development

  • Facilitates a performance driven culture by leading and administering the performance management process, tracking and reporting.

  • Champions the value of the performance management process and partners with client group(s) to ensure that the feedback process is being effectively delivered to all associates and that all applicable communication and documentation is provided.

  • Drives positive changes in people management by identifying and making recommendations on training and development needs of client group(s). Partners with the Learning Organization to develop and deliver Human Resource training and development to enhance the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the client group(s).

  • Facilitates Performance Calibration Roundtable discussions and effectively rolls up results as required.

Talent Acquisition

  • Partners with client group(s) to understand labor needs and leads workforce planning process to support this. Understands the client group’s contribution to the business and helps identify alternative organizational structures and creative approaches to meet future labor needs.

  • Collaborates with the Talent Acquisition team to provide input/feedback into the establishment and development of plans to source, attract and retain employee talent for client group(s). Actively participates in the interview and selection process for open positions.

  • Partners with client groups to help facilitate and provide successful on-boarding of newly hired, promoted and transferred associates.

Professional Development & Industry Activities

  • Monitors direction and growth of the business, relevant industry developments and market trends as it relates to Choice’s Human Resources practices.

  • Proactively identifies and shares Best Practices across the Human Resources department and with client groups.

  • Participates in professional associations, preferably in a leadership role, to foster awareness of Choice as a premier employer and to cultivate a network of HR professionals.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Human Resources, or other relevant field; some experience in a corporate HR environment is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and work experience. PHR and/or SPHR certification is preferred.

  • Demonstrated accomplishments in leading strategic and tactical Human Resources activities

  • Strong business acumen and a proven ability to align and connect company vision, mission and business objectives with HR strategies and programs.

  • Prior experience in Employee Relations

  • Proven ability to influence and resolve HR-related issues by applying a balanced approach.

  • Excellent human relations, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong knowledge of current employment laws and regulations.

  • Strong customer service, detail orientation, and organizational skills.

  • Strong people analytics and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Experience working with HRIS/Workday is desired.

  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
