Army National Guard Units MATERIALS HANDLER (TITLE 32) in North Riverside, Illinois

Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MATERIALS HANDLER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0903000 and is part of the IL USPFO, National Guard. Responsibilities As a MATERIALS HANDLER (TITLE 32), WG-6907-5/6, you will oversee one or more product lines, a segment of a large warehouse, or serve as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse or supply facility. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Check stock numbers and part numbers in supply catalogs to adequately identify property. Identify, examine, classify, accept, and dispose of a wide variety of materials and property including electronic equipment, aircraft and automotive components and assemblies. Operate large warehouse perimeter vehicles such as cargo tractors, stake trucks, mobile cranes, and forklifts ranging in size up to 10,000 lbs. Determine physical condition and serviceability of material and property. Prepare items for processing, utilizing appropriate Standard Anny Management Information System (STAMIS) such as computer terminal and bar code reader to read, store, track and prepare material documentation. Prepare inventory and production reports, screens and identifies shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies, and directs shipments to shipping or storage areas. Store hazardous materials; requires knowledge or specialized handling, storing, and safety procedures. Assist in the development of plans for storage and arrangement of stock to determine warehouse configuration, setup, movement, rearrangement and traffic flow. Serve as the senior member of a warehouse project team comprised of material handlers involved in a special project such as relocating a major commodity or equipment group or setting up a new commodity group area. Advise supervisor about inconsistent shipment information, defective material or property, and damage from shipping. Route items to maintenance activity for technical inspections when defects, excessive wear, corrosion, missing pm1s or damage is discovered. Perform classification inspections for material within range of authority; ensure formal accountability when receiving, storing or issuing. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. May be required to successfully complete a trial period. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Recruitment and relocation incentives may be available for this position. PCS expenses may be authorized. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted, not to exceed rank of SSG. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess the experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-06 Level - MUST possess the specialized experience or training in receiving, packaging, and preparation for shipment; experience in compiling reports, overall warehouse planning, documentation requirements, and accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques; experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc. WG-05 LEVEL - MUST possess the experience or training in demonstrating the ability to store, organize and/or rotate a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities; familiar with basic warehouse procedures; experience in determining quantities of inventory items; experience in following oral and written instructions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
