Merck Associate Director, US Marketing, Adult Pneumococcal Vaccine Scientific Strategy Lead in North Wales, Pennsylvania

Job Description

The Scientific Strategy lead plays a critical role in the launch of our adult pneumococcal vaccine, a critical growth driver for the organization and high priority, amidst a highly competitive and dynamic market. The Scientific Strategy Lead will be responsible for developing the strategies and relevant initiatives to drive scientific understanding, advocacy, and activation for the launch. This role will lead commercial activities that interface with internal and external stakeholders, including US Medical Affairs, Regional Vaccine Medical Directors, Global Marketing, the Center for Observational and Real-World Evidence (CORE), and key external societies.

Key Responsibilities include and may not limited to:

  • Define brand priorities from a scientific education and advocacy perspective, ensuring alignment with marketing strategy

  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs to develop and execute upon a scientific engagement plan that supports the launch

  • Understand and adapt to a highly dynamic competitive landscape, leading the development of a scientific strategy that differentiates versus competition

  • Partner with Medical Affairs to lead Group Input Meetings

  • Partner with key stakeholders on the development of medical education content and collaborate across the HCP marketing Customer Agile Team (CAT) to execute upon medical education strategy, including digital components

  • Develop the franchise’s annual congress plan and develop necessary congress resources / activities

  • Work with CORE and Market Access teams to support needs, including assessing our health care economic value platform

  • Represent brands on select cross-divisional teams

  • Act as the commercial point during labeling meetings and manage label updates

  • Consistently remain current on key insights for the brand, customer, and marketplace

Qualifications:

Required Experience and Skills:

  • BA/BS degree

  • Minimum 4 years Vaccines/Pharma/Biotech experience OR a minimum of 3 years combined strategic marketing, brand management, sales or business support experience in any industry

  • Strong written/verbal communication skills as demonstrated through experience in strategy & marketing business case communication, sales interface, direct customer engagement and/or sales presentations

  • Results-driven, with a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration

  • Able to work hybrid and come into the North Wales, Pennsylvania (Upper Gwynedd) office 3 days per week

  • Able to travel 25% to fulfill the responsibilities of the role

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to translate science/clinical data into clear marketing strategies, medical education and/or conference initiatives

  • Understanding of health care ecosystem, market access environment, and drivers of value in health care

  • Experience with communication/marketing to health care providers

  • Experience in a highly regulated environment (with medical/legal review processes) including experience including bringing materials through legal, regulatory, and clinical review

  • Strong project management skills as demonstrated by prioritizing activities, using resources optimally, establishing appropriate deadlines and ensuring on-time delivery

  • Experience influencing without direct authority, navigating complex or matrix organizations and working successfully with cross-functional teams
