News Corp Australia Financial Accountant in NSW, Australia

What’s the role?

This Financial Accountant position will assist News Corp Australia in providing accurate financial information and insights in order to support decision making and financial planning across the organisation. This role is responsible for maintaining and analysing financial records whilst ensuring compliance with accounting standards and controls regulations.

This role reports directly to the Manager of Financial Accounting, and works closely with a team of senior financial accountants and financial accountants.

This is a permanent, full time position based in our Surry Hills office (next to Central station) with flexible working (3 days office, 2 days WFH)

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records by recording all financial transactions, including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments, in accordance with established accounting principles and policies.

  • Reconciling and reviewing general ledger accounts, and other financial records to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and maintain the accuracy of financial data.

  • Analyse and report on Financial Statement balances and movements to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, SOx regulations, and company policies by monitoring and enforcing internal controls and procedures.

  • Implementation of tactical changes via automation, streamlining or elimination (if necessary) of processes.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial schedules and documentation for external audits, ensuring compliance with audit requirements and addressing auditor inquiries

Who are you?

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) is preferred.

  • Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations (GAAP or IFRS).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to engage stakeholders and build meaningful relationships.
