Job Summary:

Under the direction of the lead Tech and with limited supervision, coordinates and performs Ultrasound and may perform vascular examinations, contributing to the efficient operation of the department and promoting the philosophy, to ensure the quality of patient care and exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Provides patient and family focused care that supports a welcoming and supportive environment and a positive patient experience.

• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.

• Understands and follows departmental protocols and procedures in the performance of exams and produces work that meets quality standards.

• Ability to identify and flag abnormalities.

• Produces work in an efficient manner that meets departmental productivity standards.

• Maintains the physical work environment in a manner that meets departmental and regulatory requirements.

• Has a working knowledge of the IT systems that support the modality.

• Reports supply shortage or equipment failure to section supervisor.

• Follows work and patient schedules.

• Assist physician in the performance of procedures.

• Maintains logs and documentation as per departmental protocol.

• Provides patient history or information necessary for proper interpretation of the procedure.

• Maintains licensure/registry status as determined by state or regulatory bodies.

• Participates in the training and development of students assigned to area through clinical affiliations.

• Fills department staffing needs as seen by the management team.

Job Responsibilities:

Receives and reviews requests for Ultrasound studies.

Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.

Explains and prepares the patient for all Ultrasound procedures.

Performs such exams as, but not limited to, abdominal echoes, renal, aorta, thyroid, pelvic, obstetrical, bio-physical profiles, testicular and breasts. Color flow studies, Doppler studies and assist in biopsies and fluid collections of localized areas.

Takes representative anatomical pictures, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, and exhibits knowledge of various pathological processes.

Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage change.

Maintains equipment and Ultrasound area in proper working condition. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.

Performs computer skills and shows working knowledge of patient orders, status changes patient charges and profiles.

Marks images for proper definition and explanation.

Possesses and utilizes proper aseptic technique and isolation procedures when appropriate.

Demonstrates the ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician’s orders.

Must be available for on-call status after normal working hours, rotating weekend and holiday call.

Required Job Qualifications:

• Formal training in an accredited Ultrasound Program.

• Registry or Registry-eligible with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

• Proficient in modality physics and operation of equipment.

• Knowledge of human anatomy, pathology and physiology.

• Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

• Perform Diagnostic Sonography on a portable basis.

• Maintains one ARDMS registry

• LEVEL 2JC: 3580

• Maintains two ARDMS registries

• LEVEL 3JC: 2550

• Maintains three ARDMS registries

• LEVEL 4JC: 3581

• Maintains four ARDMS registries.

Physical Demands:

• Requires full range body motion including handling and lifting patients when necessary.

• Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Allied Health Program.

  • Associates degree.

  • ARDMS registered

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience.
