Akima Project Management Support in Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the project management and business services fields as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of our customer’s mission.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratory. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. The selected applicant will provide Project Management support to the ORNL Advanced Engineering Technologies group. Responsibilities will include providing work breakdown structure, establishing and maintaining the project schedule, milestones and costs, ensuring control over project scope, and developing communications and reporting to the project sponsor.

The position requires an ability to work independently with little oversight. This individual will be expected to establish consistent processes that can be maintained by the project team. The Advanced Engineering Technologies group of National Security Sciences Directorate is adding new projects that require solid project management support from the Project Management Office. PMO support ensures consistency across the initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing processes. This support allows the scientists to focus on their areas of expertise with greater efficiency, and also allows for more consistent reporting and communication with the project sponsors.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supports the Management team and stakeholders in developing project definition and scope, methods of accomplishment and project schedule and cost baselines.

  • Provides schedule development and tracks progress against deliverables.

  • Establishes work activities, milestones and schedules, cost estimates and spending profiles in accordance with ORNL business processes.

  • Assists the Project Manager in identifying additional resources and leading the team to successful project completion.

  • Assists with managing the project team in achieving the project scope, schedule and cost objectives.

  • Communicates project plans and updates to the project team and management.

  • Identifies problems and implements solutions to improve performance against established objectives.

  • Assists with reviewing project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects.

Qualifications

  • Skilled applying Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and processes.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience using various project control operating systems (e.g., Primavera (P6), Cobra, MS Project) and knowledge of /experience using Microsoft Office tools.

  • Experience evaluating and analyzing complex projects, identify issues, and propose solutions to problems.

  • Experience interpreting, organizing, and analyzing data from multiple sources.

  • Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication and presentation skills to effectively disseminate, create, and present highly detailed and complex financial information to diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to tactfully and effectively establish and maintain highly productive working relationships with a broad cross-section of management, technical, scientific, and administrative personnel.

  • Demonstrated organizational, recordkeeping, and coordination skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple levels of management or technical personnel.

  • Ability to work full-time on-site at ORNL located in Oak Ridge, TN

  • Active DOE Q clearance.

  • B.S. Degree in Project Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field

  • Intermediate knowledge of Project Management core principles as evidenced by a CAPM or PMP certification

  • 3 - 5 years minimum of directly related Project Management experience

  • Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

  • Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
