AT&T System Design Engineer (Government) in Oakton, Virginia

Our Civilian Public Sector team supports Federal clients in a variety of missions. We provide mission critical telecommunications services assuring critical voice, video and collaboration services for the full spectrum of operations.

AT&T has an opening for Senior System Design Engineer to support the Federal Civilian Sector in providing design, engineering and implementation solutions.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serves as coordinator and technical expert in facilitation of multi product/service design, engineering, business processes and functional areas associated with the solution architecture and design.

  • Proficient at the techniques that go into the formulation of solutions, including collecting customer requirements and assessing solution alternatives based on tradeoffs in cost, performance, reliability and security, and be able to partner with the team to recommend the most appropriate solution for the customer.

  • Proficient in exercising technical leadership which requires the ability to accept responsibility for the success of the solutions implementation, coordinate resources that are often not directly under their control and provide the support necessary to ensure overall go-to-market success.

  • Required to maintain an industry knowledge to advise on trends and techniques and apply them to the development of solutions.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for presenting and working with client and partners.

  • Analyze business and network challenges to design a comprehensive solution that integrates smoothly into the customer’s environment.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and acts with autonomy in managing workload.

  • Functions independently, establishing short- and long-term objectives. Determines work activities necessary to meet objectives

  • Coordinate with AT&T custom solution organization, represent customer needs, develop proposed custom designs for approval, and create repeatable solutions

Required Qualifications:

  • This position consults on technical issues during joint sales call with the sales team.

  • Responsibilities include consulting with internal and external business partners to deliver complex network service solutions integrating across a combination of standard, non-standard, and external company products and services.

  • Works on complex problems and solutions where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors.

  • Position provides technical expertise in IP Networking, diverse Ethernet and TDM circuit design, layer 2 encapsulation protocols, MPLS network architecture, and the overall installation, operations, and maintenance of company products.

  • Understands, develops, and delivers systems/applications solutions and designs to B&P team.

  • The engineer analyzes practices, procedures, and data to determine answers to technical challenges.

  • This position demonstrates a full working knowledge of assigned company products and services.

  • Requires seasoned in-depth knowledge of functional/process area and is considered a subject matter expert.

  • Architect/Engineer creates recommendations, and implements new methods, techniques, and/or procedures for complex solutions with diverse scope.

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience: Typically requires 10-15 years of experience in systems/networkengineering.

Desired Qualifications:

Desired areas of expertise include knowledge of AT&T’s Strategic Services (including VPN, MRS, Cloud and Security) products, processes, systems, and personnel. Must have knowledge of Cisco and other IP Networking equipment vendor offerings. Industry recognized IP Networking and Security Certifications are desired. Must be able to work collaboratively with Federal Government Customers, AT&T Sales, AT&T Programs, and AT&T Product teams to attain success in a complex and ever-changing environment. Understanding of Juniper CPE products a plus.
