U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Technician (Civil) in Old Hickory, Tennessee

Summary About the Position: You will function as an Engineering Technician (Civil) with the Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, Nashville Operations Division, located in Old Hickory, Tennessee. Responsibilities Oversees a wide variety of hazardous conditions found in the operation and maintenance of locks and dams which require knowledge of federal, states and local regulatory requirements. Assists Field Supervisors and Collateral Duty Safety Officers (CDSO) in the application of national, state, and local codes, and engineering standards. Reviews project work plans for all major maintenance activities to assure inclusion of features that meet all requirements. Reviews and incorporates accident prevention measures to assure availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for control of environmental and health hazards. Participates in accident prevention planning conferences with OM management and project personnel, contractor representatives, and other agency representatives. Reviews equipment maintenance requirements and reports to determine the need of new equipment to meet mission requirements. Conducts scheduled inspections of all Area projects to assure equipment is structurally sound and operated according to established procedures. To qualify at the GS-08 grade level, you must have: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the maintenance, repair, and inspection of equipment, such as cranes, forklifts, trailers, pumps, compressors, machining equipment, welding machines, and diving equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating hazards to operations and maintenance of navigation locks, floating plants, hydropower production projects, flood control structures, and completing the work in a safe and effective manner; overseeing a variety of hazardous conditions found in the operation and maintenance of locks and dams which require knowledge of federal, states and local regulatory Requirements; assisting Field Supervisors and Collateral Duty Safety Officers (CDSO) in the application of national, state, and local codes, and engineering standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Manages and Organizes Information Mechanics Safety Engineering Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent: Must have 52 weeks at the GS-07 for the GS-08 grade level Must have 52 weeks at the GS-08 for the GS-09 grade level Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
