Responsibilities:

  • Is the Agency lead for all visual and graphic design projects.
  • Creates and produces all visual and design elements of publications, reports, displays, interpretive signs, electronic media, and other agency products.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates creation, collection, preparation, and dissemination of graphical design and visual elements of annual, biennial, and special reports, brochures, pamphlets, and material for mass news media.
  • Advises Communications Director and Executive Management on graphic design and visual communications strategies. Offers ideas and information on best media, techniques, technology, content, and format.
  • Develops and maintains the agency's graphic identity, evaluates division products, web presentation of information, and public relations materials to ensure agency identity is enhanced.
  • Participates in strategic sessions about design and visual communications to the public, media, and internal clients; project input meetings, brainstorm sessions, and client meetings as required by Executive Management.
  • Train staff on how to use and comply with agency visual standards. Directs, trains, and evaluates the work of other graphic designers in the agency and other professional/technical staff, and develops and conducts training.
  • Independently or with a team, conceptualizes, designs, and produces complex, agency-wide visual communications projects, such as annual reports, brochures, logos, illustrations, displays, indoor and outdoor interpretive signs, advertisements, maps, internet materials, comprehensive layouts, and other communications materials.
  • Analyzes and edits visual elements and written content for clarity of communication.
  • Researches, recommends, prepares, and collects bids from vendors. Directs other graphic design staff, contractors, and vendors. Coordinates and monitors production phases, and serves as a liaison for clients, contractors, and state printers.

*Required Qualifications: *

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible design experience or a combination of education and equivalent experience.
  • Experience designing for organizations, including developing materials for factsheets, social media, web, and special publications such as reports and white papers.
  • Experience interpreting and analyzing public information, policy, and issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively and change course if necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills, graphic, written, and verbal, and ability to make complex information understandable to the general public using visual design.
