A Brief Overview

The incumbent prepares all patient and cafeteria food items according to standardized recipes. The position maintains food quality standards by using proper cooking techniques and following food safety guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares menu items per standard recipe procedures.

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives including taste panel and test trays.

  • Participates in financial management process by carefully monitoring quantities prepared vs. served, inventory usage, portion control, and recipe compliance.

  • Participates in patient/customer satisfaction efforts by participating in planning/implementing specials and menu changes.

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

  • Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months experience in food service, food preparation, or related field Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of institutional cooking

  • Knowledge of basic food safety techniques

  • Knowledge of basic ordering/inventory principles

  • Knowledge of HACCP principles

  • Skill in recipe preparation

  • Skill in portion control

  • Skill in compliance to closing protocols

  • Ability to utilize leftovers in a creative, safe manner

  • Ability to lead staff in the absence of a supervisor or lead

  • Ability to adjust food production using historical data

Licenses and Certifications

  • Food Handlers Card (ANSI-accredited only) within 180 Days Required
